Best fish and chips in the area. The staff are great. Always laughing and smiling even in a hot kitchen and the food is excellent. You get generous portions in both fish and chips and the best thing for me is that the chips are crispy and not soggy like some. They also have a loyalty card scheme where you get a card stamped every time you spend over a certain amount and after a while you get free portions. Highly recommended.

We have always rated Captain Cod. Unfortunately tonight's fish and chip dinner was awful!
The batter was hard to the point of hurting your mouth whilst attempting to chew, the chips the same. So hard and crispy they were inedible, some were completely uncooked!. This is not the first time we've had a bad experience here but we thought we'd try again.. This will be the last time trying. Sorry. -

Captain Cod is situated on one of the main residential routes in Christchurch with plenty of parking nearby which is a real plus, however, what it has in terms of convenience, it loses in service.
For some peculiar reason, the management have decided to institute a queuing system that means that each order is cooked and processed in full before serving the next person which is great if you've got a big order, but absolutely infuriating if you have to wait ages for a single portion of chips.
Couple this frustration with food that is ok, but nothing fancy, and you end-up feeling that on balance it's probably not worth the wait.
